What is Camo Color for Hair?
Camo color for hair is a demi-permanent (not permanent) and will blend gray hair. There are 3 shades to choose from, Light, Medium, and Dark. And two tones to choose from each of those above 3, Natural and Ash.
Why Use Redken Camo Color?
Redken camo color is great because it’s –
- Designed specifically for men
- Processes in 10 minutes or less
- Only needs 10 volume developer (known in the Redken brand as Pro-Oxide) which is less damaging to the hair than higher volumes of developer
- Uses a 1:1 ratio
- Is ammonia free
- Uses a protein rich, quinoa oil formula to keep the hair healthy and shiny
- A demi-color, not permanent
- Covers Gray by blending it in, and slowly fades, so that when it grows out there isn’t such a harsh line (the darker the camo and the more salty, or white, your hair is the more noticeable the grown-out line will be)
- Redken Brews Camo Color does not leave the hair with unnatural gold (yellow) or copper (red) tones

To determine which of the colors is correct for you or your client you have to consider which tone you do want and more importantly, what tone you don’t want.
Hair tone is the underlying colors that might make your hair look more cool (ashy) or warm (light browns).
Thankfully, because of how easy Redken Camo Color is, you don’t have to worry about the color being too warm (red or yellow) because they only have ash and neutral.
Ash vs Neutral Hair Color – How to Choose & Use them Properly
Natural means it doesn’t lean either ash (blue or cool tones) OR warm (red or yellow tones) it’s a perfect, neutral, in between.
Ash doesn’t mean that your hair will be blue either. It just means there will be more gray or slightly silver tones to it than the natural neutral.
Applying the Redken Camo Color Instructions-
👏 Remember, the product starts to process in under 5 minutes so 🛑 DO NOT open the color bottle or mix with the developer until you are ready to immediately apply it to the hair and start the timer! 👏
Prepare beforehand –
- The correct color
- 10 volume Pro-oxide
- A bowl and brush or applicator bottle
- Gloves
- A cape or towel you don’t mind staining
- A timer
1. Before the color application, put on some disposable gloves to prevent staining your hands and fingernails
2. Drape your client with the cape, be sure there is an extra towel nearby incase the color gets a little runny.
3. Have the color applicator bottle or bowl and brush ready to go

The pros to having an applicator bottle to a bowl and brush is you don’t have to have a scale to weigh the equal 1:1 ratio of the products. The bottle has measuring lines that you can use to measure the equal parts of the Redken Camo Color and the 10 volume developer.
4. Mix equal parts (1:1 ratio) of the color and the 10 volume developer into the applicator of choice.
5. Lather the color on the hair and SET A TIMER right away for 5 minutes. Run a comb through the hair to ensure it’s even saturation so that there aren’t any little spots that the color won’t get to.
And remember, the longer the product stays on the hair and oxidizes, the darker the stain will be. For the darkest colors, allow the color to sit for up to 10 minutes.
👉 Don’t worry about the color becoming extra dark on the hair while it’s processing. It will not be that dark once the color is washed out.
6. When the timer goes off you can spray a small portion of the hair and wipe it clean with a towel to see if the hair is as dark as you want it to be. Just remember to work fast!
7. If the color is just right (usually between minute 5-6) wash the hair with a color safe shampoo and COOL water.
What are the Colors in Camo?
