Best Professional Haircutting Clippers

Top 5 BEST Professional Hair Clipper Brands

#1 Best Professional Hair Clippers – Andis Master Cordless Clipper

A definite favorite among Master Barbers. Incredible durability and perfect precision when it comes to fades. Andis Masters are cordless and is a lever clipper.

Andis Master Cordless Clipper with Adjustable Blade for $165

Pros

✔️ Cordless clippers allow you to move around without getting the cord tangled or twisted

✔️ Andis Master Cordless Clippers last a long time and are easy to maintain

✔️ A favorite amongst Master Barbers

✔️ These are lever clippers, which are perfect for fades

Cons

👎 Cordless clippers need to be charged. It’s a bummer when you forget to charge your backup battery

👎 You don’t have the ability to change out the clipper blades

#2 – Oster Classics

You may know this brand for their kitchen tools but Oster makes solid clippers that are hardcore.

Osters are excellent for families who do a lot of haircuts at home every month.

If cared for properly Oster professional hair clippers will last FOREVER! And the blades move very quickly, which makes cutting hair feel like slicing through butter.

In my shop, I choose to use detachable blades over plastic clipper guards because it gives a cleaner cut that will make the haircut last longer. When buying guards for Oster clippers, just be sure that the guards are Oster compatible. If you choose to go this route and need to use the detatchable plastic clipper guards, always use them with a 000 blade. This will give you the most accurate length once you attach the guard.

The Oster Classic below includes both a #1 blade and a #000 blade. Both are compatible with clipper guards, metal or plastic whichever you choose, would need to be purchased separately.

Oster 76 Classic Clipper 7 Piece Set – Including 000 & #1 Blades, Oil & Grease for $143.54

Pros

✔️ Oster Classic professional hair clippers are heavy duty and last for a very long time if greased and oiled properly

✔️ These professional hair clippers have detachable blades, so it’s easy to replace and change the blade out, and you can use plastic clipper guards on them as well

✔️ The Oster brand is well known for making long-lasting tools

✔️ Oster Classic blades run very quickly, thus cutting extremely smoothly and gives a cleaner cut without pulling or pinching the hair at all

✔️ Maintenance on these clippers are easy, you only need grease and oil and a screwdriver to put the front plate back on the clipper

Cons

👎 Oster Classics are heavy, so on long days in the salon or barbershop it will take a toll on your wrists

👎 There is no lever, so you have to switch the blades every time you need a different length

👎 The clippers become hot easily if not greased properly because the blades run so quickly

Classic 76 Oster Clippers 17 Piece Set – Including #00000 (skin level), #000, #1 Blades – 10 Piece Clipper Guards, Grease & Oil for $198.95

#3 – Andis BGrC Clippers

My personal favorite.

Andis clippers are lightweight, which are great for small wrists. And they use detachable blades, for a more accurate cut. Although with a 000 blade, you can also use the detachable clipper guards as well on this clipper.

Andis clippers don’t last as long as the Osters but they are lighter and not as heavy duty.

Professionally in my shop, my BGrC model of Andis clippers last about 12 months using them every day. So if you would like multiple length options, I would recommend either buying other blades or guards (Andis compatible) to go with this tool.

Andis BGrC Clippers for $152.99

Pros

✔️ You have the ability to change the clipper blades

✔️ Andis is a reputable brand and lasts a long time

✔️ The BGrC professional hair clippers are lightweight, which is easier for sensitive wrists

✔️ These clippers have the ability to become cordless

Cons

👎 Cordless clippers need to be charged. It’s a bummer when you forget to charge your backup battery

👎 You don’t have the ability to change out the clipper blades

👎 Andis BGrC professional hair clippers don’t last as long as the Osters

#4 – Wahl

This brand is well known and I personally use some Whal tools in my shop. Be careful not to purchase any cheap Wahl products though, they do have some tools available at Walmart and Target for $20 but these are the clippers that last 2 haircuts before breaking.

In the shop, I choose Wahl trimmers over clippers to line up and go around the edges. But there are some very good Wahl professional hair clippers that many professionals choose to use as their go-to clippers.

Wahl Professional Magic Clip Cordless Clipper for $114.99

Pros

✔️ Wahl professional hair clippers are well known and easy to replace parts

✔️ Cordless professional hair clippers give you the ability to move around the chair without being inhibited by a power cord

✔️ These clippers have a lever, which are perfect for achieving those perfect fades

Cons

👎 Cordless clippers need to be charged. It’s a bummer when you forget to charge your backup battery

👎 Lever clippers mean that you have to purchase separate detachable clipper guards

👎 Wahls can break a little easier than other brands of professional hair clippers

#5 – Babyliss

BabylissPRO lever clipper.

This particular model includes plastic guards, to attach to the blade. The lever is for making micro-adjustments to get the perfect fade. We’ll talk about how to do the perfect fade below and how to use adjustable lever clippers below.

BabylissPRO Barberology Clippers for $229.99

Pros

✔️ Babyliss is a reputable brand that is well known for producing excellent tools

✔️ BabylissPRO professional hair clippers are pretty

✔️ These are lever clippers, again, perfect for fades

Cons

👎 Not a typical Master Barber go-to favorite

👎 The paint will eventually peel off

Best Professional Hair Clippers for fades?

One thing we haven’t talked about is the difference between clippers with a lever and clippers with detachable blades.

Clippers are for are specifically for fades. Like, military fades. Skin, to a shadow, to length on top or at the crown where you blend.

It is VERY IMPORTANT to know when using this kind of clipper that there are MORE THAN 2 SETTINGS.

The lever moves the blade closer to the skin or farther away from the skin. When the lever is open, the blade is the farthest from the skin. When the lever is closed, the blade is as close as it will get to the skin.

You CAN attach guards to this type of clipper for later on in the fade. When you do, just remember to close the blade. It is as close to the skin as possible, then you can attach the guard.

Having the lever closed when a guard is attached gives you the most accurate length. If the lever is open when a blade is attached the hair will be cut to whatever length the guard says but half a size longer.

So if you attach a #3 guard and the lever is open (far from the skin) the haircut will end up being a #3.5.
