What is the best blow dryer for natural hair? How can I make my tools last their longest life for 8+ years?

Best Affordable Hair Blow Dryer, How to Give You Blow Dryer It's Longest Life

Is there a ‘best blow dryer’?

Everyone has their favorite, but this is my professional favorite blow dryer.

For the 8 years of being licensed and the 1 year at beauty school, I surprisingly, have only owned 1 blow dryer for my entire career. And I recently (in 2021) have had to replace it.

Check out the Babyliss Nano Titanium On Amazon Here!

The Babyliss Nano Titanium is what I received in my kit in beauty school. It has 4 heat settings, hot, medium, cool, and cold. And 2-speed settings, high speed, and medium.

It also comes with a nozzle for better blow drying concentration on the hair instead of blowing air into the room.

This blow dryer cost me, new, less than $100.

Why is the Babyliss Nano the Best Blow Dryer for Natural Hair?

This Babyliss blow dryer uses an ion generator. Negative ions make charged heat, which means that they dry the hair faster by lifting the cuticle and drying the entirety of the hair strands, without boiling the hair from the inside out.

The water inside of the hair when dried with hot air, not an ion-charged dryer, it will heat the water internally to steam thus eliminating the water. But the steam will cook the hair on the inside and the outside. AKA fry your hair. 😵

18 Quick Tips to Get Rid of Frizzy Hair Overnight

Fried hair means that you have ‘split ends’ from the inside out. The cuticle is cracked on the inside and the outside, leaving the hair frizzy, damaged, and unable to hold moisture. All of which is imperative for healthy natural hair.

Do Split Ends Stop Hair Growth?

AND this blow dryer has a nozzle that will fit other attachment tools which are helpful for drying natural hair. A diffuser for drying with a scrunch for your curls, or a comb attachment to help straighten curls before using a flatiron.

Wait, how long did this tool last?

My first one worked smoothly without overheating or smelling hot for 8 years.

How did I get it to last 8 years? Honestly, I didn’t know it would last that long.

I didn’t know blow dryers could last that long. But here’s what I did.

How to give your blow dryer- and other tools- it’s longest life

For my Babyliss Titanium blow dryer, this is what I did…

#1- Keep the cord from twisting.

I watched many students and co-workers over the years use their tools and put them away while the cord was so tangled you had to walk across the room to stretch it out. For mine, I always kept unwound and untangled.

✔️ Also, when storing my blow dryer I didn’t wrap the cord around the tool itself, I made a circle with the cord and kept it in a drawer and the cord lay on top of the dryer so that it wasn’t folded or twisted tight.

#2- Take the back off and dust off the filter.

Every blow dryer sucks in air through the filter in the back. If you’ve ever seen a flat-ended dryer you’ve seen the filter.

It is supposed to be covered at all times by the guard (the round part of the back of the blow dryer) so that the air being sucked in through the filter won’t suck in any length of hair with it and get stuck inside. That is a mess I do not recommend, it’s not worth leaving the filter off.

But with that being said, the suction sucks in all of the air, and whatever is in the air with it.

Lint, other tiny hair splinters floating through the air. If you work in a salon, you know that these are everywhere, so it’s easy for the filter to become clogged and blocked.

✔️ Keep your filter clean! If the filter is kept clean, the motor won’t get clogged and there won’t be a burnt smell and you will have just given your machine a few more years in life!

#3 Repeat every few months.

✔️ Maintenance your blow dryer like this every few months, a couple of times a year. No more than that should be necessary, even for professionals in the shop using their blow dryer all day every day.

That’s it! Yes, truly, those are the only two things that I did differently and I had to replace my blow dryer after 8 years!

Best of luck!
