Trimming your curly hair often to ensure that there are fewer split ends will help the hair grow and stay healthy.

Many stylists tell their clients that getting a trim helps hair grow but doesn’t explain why. And it’s confusing because hair doesn’t grow from the ends it grows from the roots so why does getting a trim help hair grow?

Split ends break off the same amount of hair that is growing.

Cutting off the beginning of split ends before they start to travel up the hair strands will prevent the hair from breaking off. So when stylists say that it helps your hair grow, it’s not true, trimming doesn’t help hair grow longer but only that you can see the length better and by preventing the hair to break off the same amount that it is growing.

So, in short, you can see the length that is growing better because when you trim often the amount that is growing isn’t breaking off the ends. Does that make sense?
