The Difference between a Professional Barber Case and Clipper Case for Barbers
What is the difference between a professional barber case and a clipper case for barbers?
A clipper case for barber is specifically for clippers.
Clippers are by layman’s terms, buzzers. They are very expensive tools that run electrically to cut hair very short.
Clipper cases often have more than one slot for more than one kind of clipper. There are so many different kinds of professional clippers for barbers out there and so many brands to choose from. My personal favorites and the ones that I have reviewed are in the article below, Top 5 Best Professional Clippers.

To me, my clippers are worth keeping safely in a case.
To replace a set of clippers can cost anywhere fro $100 USD to $300 USD.
Keeping your tools in a safe place where they won’t be broken or stolen is a comfort to barbers everywhere.
From this point forward in the article we will be referring to clipper cases for barbers and barber cases the same.

Different Kinds of Clipper Cases for Barbers
- Barber Backpacks
Barber backpacks are exactly what they sound like. It’s similar to a clipper case but varies in size and you can transport it as a backpack quite easily.

- Custom Barber Cases
To have the privilege of being able to have a barber case made custom to you is so cool! There are two kinds of custom professional barber cases.
- Customize a case with your name or your preference of material that it is made of
Or
- Customize a case in a way that you can almost ‘build it yourself’. It is not a DIY or a kit of any kind. But there are companies that will customize a clipper case for barbers that can hold X number of clippers, have X number of pockets… or other preferences that you have for your own customized barber case.
Warning! If you are one of the barbers that has the privilege of being able to build a custom barber case for yourself, remember that it is very easy to get carried away and end up with a box that is very heavy and difficult to travel with. If you want to use it as a barber travel case.
- Barber case with mirrors
These professional barber cases are usually designed to go directly on the station in front of the mirror. The mirror in the case is useful to use in place of the big mirror in front of the station, OR for barbers that travel and need a barber travel case, a barber case with mirrors is very helpful for that.

- Barber Travel Case
The best barber travel cases depend on the preference of the barber.
Some hair professionals prefer their barber travel cases to have mirrors, others decide that mirrors take up too much room and they go with small barber cases.
Some want barber backpacks to travel but others don’t mind having a handle. Or even bigger cases that have wheels.

Not all barber travel cases are large. Most of these barber cases are portable and are used as travel barber cases.
- Small Barber Cases
Exactly like it sounds, small professional barber cases are clipper cases for barbers but only hold one or two sets of clippers and maybe two sets of shears. There aren’t extra pockets or much room for other things like combs or neck strips. Some might even be small enough that they don’t have room for trimmers.
The benefits of having a small barber case is that it is easy to travel with, or to take home at night. It’s easy to keep it clean and organized because there isn’t any room for a mess. And you can easily disguise a small barber case to look like a briefcase, makeup bag, purse, or toolbox.
You can also easily make an emergency barber kit with a small barber case to keep at home.
The cons of having a small barber case is that it is easy to run out of room for all of the tools that you typically need with you for working.

Why Should You Have a Clipper Case as a Barber?
Clippers and barber tools are expensive.
Brushes, trimmers, blow dryers, but especially the clippers and shears. Each tool is an investment. It is important to take good care of your tools, because without them, it would be pretty difficult to make a living cutting hair with damaged or broken cutting tools.
A clipper case for barbers, whatever style you find works best for you and your arsenal of tools, keeps your tools safe.
It prevents them from falling off of a hook, like so many do when they are hung up from the ring on the butt of most clippers. Keeping your tools in a clipper case means that it’s easier to stay organized and less likely that any other tools will fall on them or manage to break each other.
Nobody goes to work and waits to hear that heart-dropping sound of a tool crashing to the floor. No bueno.
If your tools each have their own home and place inside a barber case they will be safe and it will help them last longer because you are preventing damage and accidents.
How to Organize My Barber Case
Barber. Case. Trays.
Barber case trays are excellent to help keep the case organized and less messy.
I use a case try in my barber case to hold my clipper blades so that they don’t become dull by all rattling around together in the same place.
Other hair professionals use barber case trays to keep their clean and dirty combs organized.
Power Cords
It’s easy to let your power cords from your clippers to get tangled and super twisted up.
Keep your cords untwisted. The least amount of tension on the cords will help your tools last their longest life and you won’t have to pay for new tools sooner.
If your power cords stay untwisted and untangled it will be easier for you to carefully and strategically wind them up in your barber clipper case and they fit without you fighting them!

Can I Make My Own Barber Case?
Absolutely! You can make your own barber case out of a toolbox.
But keep in mind that it is easy to damage tools in a toolbox if you don’t use clipper blade organizers and other organizing barber case trays. And it’s easy to run out of room when DIY-ing your own barber case.
Makeup cases can also be used for barbers because they often have mirrors and have plenty of open space.

What Outliners do Barbers Use?
Outliners are another term for Trimmers. Outliners are more often used for designs, not just outlining the hairline around the ears and nape.
In my professional experience, Andis has the best outliners. Though I personally use Wahls on my clients.

Do Clipper Guards Make a Difference?
Yes. But true Master Barbers work hard to perfect their skills to be able to not have to use clipper guards with every haircut or beard buzz.
Not to say that there is any shame in using clipper guards. I am a Master Barber and still use them. Clipper guards make the haircut faster and ensure that it’s cut evenly all around the head.
To affectively use clipper guards you need to know each clipper blade or guard length and height, not just the number that is on it.
