Hello Reader! It is a pleasure to host you on The Exquisite Find today. I wanted to take a moment and share a little about myself.

My name is Madison. I am a licensed and practicing Cosmetologist and Barber since 2014. I currently own two haircutting businesses, not including this blog. And a nonprofit called Barber in a Bag.

Currently, I fly solo. Neither of my businesses have taken off to the point where I need help or can hire employees. The first business being a booth rental situation, I see my regular guests there and continue to care for them. My second is a traveling barber business. I go to businesses and offer haircuts as a benefit for the employer to offer to his staff. Learn More

My passion for hair started at 6 years old. I wanted to be a pilot, trash guy, ballerina (as most little girls do), and a hairstylist. Of course, hair stuck. To be honest, people are really what I am passionate about. Listening and helping them think through whatever they’re going through in their present season of life. I hurt when they hurt, and I laugh when they laugh. People are amazing, and hair is just the bonus.

When I was 16 years old I wanted so badly to be a missionary. I prayed, “God, send me anywhere!” and He said, “You’re gonna stay where you are and cut hair.”

Imagine my surprise and feel my ever so slight disappointment. But little did I know who I would meet, what kind of an impact these people would have on my everyday and long-term life. Whether I meet a person one time or spend a lot of time with them in the shop, I am impacted. And I love it. What a joy! And what a privilege.

Why I Do Hair

This is what I am called to do. I want to love people. Listen to them. And educate them in general care and questions about hair. There is a lot more to it than you might think. Hair is freakin’ complicated.

In 2019 God asked me to start a nonprofit called “Barber in a Bag“. We teach basic haircutting skills in street and slum communities in South America. 6 weeks before our first trip, my team and I had to cancel all of our plans due to the global pandemic. Yeah, I definitely didn’t see that one coming.

Why I Blog

There are a lot of misconceptions about Cosmetology and Barber School and the Hair Industry in general. I want to give readers a clear and honest understanding of the realities of the industry- the good and the bad.

If there are any hair questions, and lesser-known facts about hair growth, maintenance, and overall health, my goal with The Exquisite Find is to educate and share the knowledge that I have learned and experienced in the years in the salon and barbershop.

The Beauty Industry is customer service based, which means there are many struggles with unhappy clients, and strategies necessary for connecting with customers as well as working smarter, not harder. I hope that the tips and tricks that I have learned and successfully used myself, and shared in this blog help other salon professionals in their own careers as well.
